Add to Heart

Some songs start with a melody. Some start with a lyric. And apparently, some start while you’re scrolling through your shopping cart.

That’s basically how “Add to Heart” started.

I was looking through my cart one day when the thought suddenly came to me: “What if we made a song about adding someone to your cart?”

It sounds silly at first, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized there was something fun about turning the language of online shopping into a love song.

We already have songs that use shopping, money, or consumer culture as metaphors for relationships, and I knew the idea wasn’t completely new. But I couldn’t really find anything that approached it quite the way I was imagining.

So I started writing.

The original idea was very much built around the “Add to Cart” concept. I imagined someone basically telling their crush: You’re already on my wishlist. Stop hesitating. Add me to your heart.

That became the foundation of the chorus (initial draft):

The idea was to make it playful and catchy, but underneath all the shopping references, it’s really just a straightforward love song.

It’s about liking someone, thinking about them constantly, getting nervous around them, and eventually reaching that point of: “Okay, enough waiting. If you feel it too, just go for it.”

From an idea to a rough draft

I also want to give a big shout-out to my friend Mary Joy, who helped put together the initial draft of the song.

At that point, everything was still very rough. The lyrics weren’t fully formed yet, and a lot of things were still open to change.

But something about the concept immediately clicked.

This is probably one of the fastest songs I’ve worked on in terms of getting a rough draft together.

There was this strange flow state where things just started connecting naturally.

Usually, when arranging a song, I’d stop and think about what should come next. But with this one, ideas just kept coming while I was working.

A melody would appear. Then an arrangement idea. Then another section. Then a lyric idea that would suddenly fit.

It was one of those sessions where you look up and realize hours have passed without noticing.

By the end of it, the rough draft was basically done in one sitting.

And that’s one of the things I love about making music.

Sometimes you don’t really know if an idea will work when you start. You just follow it and see where it goes.

Then Pix!e made it theirs

The initial demo was later sent to DreamCloud, along with a few other songs.

This one ended up being picked up. But this is also where the song started to evolve into something different from the original idea.

The draft that was sent still had the core concept, melody, and some of the main lyrics, but it wasn’t the final version yet.

And honestly, that’s one of the parts I appreciate most about the process. Pix!e made the song their own.

There were sections where they felt something could be improved or better aligned with how they wanted to express the song, so changes were made together along the way. Some parts of the original chorus and melody stayed because they worked well, while other parts naturally evolved through collaboration.

That’s what makes the process meaningful. It’s not about holding on tightly to every original idea. It’s about shaping the best version of the song together.

A demo is never really a finished product. It’s more like a starting point.

Months of back and forth

The song didn’t reach its final form right away. There was a lot of back and forth — revisions, discussions, adjustments, and small changes that slowly shaped the direction of the track.

At one point, something new was added that wasn’t part of the original draft: the dance break. That addition helped push the song further into the kind of energy Pix!e could really perform and make their own.

After a few rounds of revisions, the final demo was completed. By then, the song had already gone through quite a journey from that initial shopping-cart idea.

It started as “What if we made a song about adding someone to your cart?” and eventually became “Add to Heart.”

From “Add to Cart” to “Add to Heart”

The working title stayed for a while because the concept originally came from “Add to Cart.” But “Add to Heart” feels like it captures the real meaning of the song better.

The shopping references are just the playful layer. At its core, the song is about choosing someone — having someone on your mind, thinking about them more than you expect, smiling at small memories, wondering if they feel the same way.

And slowly realizing: you don’t really want anyone else.

That’s why lines like this fit so naturally into the story:

“’Di na maghahanap pa ng iba / Dahil ikaw lang ang nais ko, langga”

And the chorus brings it all back to the central idea:

“Add to cart na / Add to heart na”

It’s really just a playful way of saying: “I’ve already chosen you. I hope you choose me too.”

This song is also a reminder that sometimes what starts as a small idea doesn’t always end up where you expect. You just keep working on it. Keep sending it out. Keep refining it. And sometimes, a demo finds its way into something bigger.

One of the special things about this track is getting to be involved in the process from start to finish.

Working on the production, arrangement, and sound design. Shaping the melodies and structure. Going through revisions and adjustments. Adding the dance break. And eventually handling the mixing and mastering as well.

Hearing the final version after all of that feels different, because it’s easy to still remember where it all started.

It wasn’t a planned concept or a big idea from the beginning. It was just a random thought while scrolling through a shopping cart: “What if… Add to Cart?” And somehow, that turned into a song about love.

And now it’s out

After months of revisions, discussions, and small changes along the way, “Add to Heart” is finally out. What started as a rough idea and a working title eventually became a finished Pix!e song.

That’s probably one of the most interesting things about songwriting — you never really know where an idea will go. Sometimes it starts with a heartbreak. Sometimes it starts with a melody. And sometimes… it starts with a shopping cart.

But if it stays with you long enough, maybe it’s worth adding to your heart.
